Commemorating Canada's 150th Anniversary in Scarborough

Kris Hoult Won

Shortly after Kris Hoult Won became a new mom, she started Lil’ Yogies—yoga classes and programs for moms, babies, children and families—with business partner Jacqui Martins.

“We started Lil’ Yogies out of a love for yoga and children. We love getting on the floor and becoming animals and insects through yoga poses, stretching and moving our bodies.”

Their practice is very active in the Scarborough community and hosts Prenatal Yoga for moms-to-be and Yoga For Moms & Babies at In The Spirit Yoga Studio in the Highland Creek community of Scarborough. The duo also share their practice with school-age groups at local child care centres and in afterschool and drop-in programs.

“Yoga is a non-competitive practice that empowers children by teaching them focus, balance and an awareness of their breath. When they learn to deepen their breathing, they learn to calm and regulate their body and mind. This helps children dealing with strong emotions and difficult situations in a positive way.”

Scarborough is a comforting area of the city for Hoult Won and she enjoys its diversity, culture—and of course—food! “My favourite areas in Scarborough are the Bluffs and Beaches. I have fond memories of spending time here with my family, and now I share that experience with my own family—my husband, daughter, and my niece and nephew.”

Namaste.
