Commemorating Canada's 150th Anniversary in Scarborough

Randell Adjei

Like many young people in my community I grew up lost and searching for purpose. I got into trouble a lot. I was angry and didn’t know how to express what I was feeling inside. I found myself through poetry and creative writing. It was cathartic and i wanted to share this with others.

I searched deeply within myself to see what i could do to help my peers overcome the challenges they face as radicalized and marginalized youth. Hence came the inception of RISE, Reaching Intelligent souls Everywhere. A safe space for young people to express themselves in a positive way.

What started out as 23 people in a small room at Scarborough Town Centre grew into a city wide movement of youth finding themselves through their creative voice.

Every Monday we host an event for young people to take stage and express what they are going through.
