Commemorating Canada's 150th Anniversary in Scarborough

David Morales

For David Morales, being consistent and accessible make an immense difference in helping residents of the 13 Toronto Community Housing (TCH) districts he oversees in east Scarborough.

As the Community Services Co-ordinator, the Humber College graduate says there are many challenges and rewards in his work. An especially proud moment during his five years at TCH was successfully launching the Mornelle Community Hub and its health-promotion programs, after hearing the concerns of local tenants and gaining the support of Councillor Paul Ainslie and MPP The Hon. Mitzie Hunter. Modestly, David says he simply “deals with paperwork and helps navigate red tape,” and that it’s the resident-led groups who are the stars.

“I help make the connections, identify local needs and solutions, and create partnerships.”

Another exciting achievement is upcoming: 4301 Kingston Road will receive a $400,000 upgrade and renovation to its gym space—which will house all-ages activities—thanks to David and community residents winning approval from Toronto City Council.
