Commemorating Canada's 150th Anniversary in Scarborough

Scarborough Arts, from its perch above the Bluffs, believes “art is a powerful tool that can change lives – we bring artists to the community, and community to the arts.” As Director of Programming for this respected, near four decades-old local arts non-profit, former teacher Jen D. Fabico has spearheaded many flagship projects, such as Cultural Hotspot, Scarborough Seniors Write, EAST, and the Bridging Festival. She first fell in love with working in the community through a group called The Borough Most Thorough, where she collaborated in various Scarborough Neighbourhood Improvement Areas with young people from the ages of 6 to 24.

“We carried around a boombox, a CD of beats, and made original music with young people all summer, allowing them to express themselves about whatever topic they wanted to talk about. The project was a response to the violence occurring in the Scarborough NIAs at the time.”

Jen has founded Next Generation Arts, to assist in resources, programming, mentorship and employment. Jen’s commitment to nurturing emerging artists and creating opportunities for the community to enjoy their talents is a gift that will continue to enhance Scarborough life.
